Chapter 01 • The Post-Pandemic Workplace

A Social Hearth in the Tech District

Commissioned as the flagship headquarters for a visionary software enterprise, Lumina confronts the fundamental question of why people gather to work. Rather than rows of static workstations, the architecture is organized around a spiraling 6-story atrium that functions as a vertical social spine, encouraging spontaneous collisions and multidisciplinary synergy.

Stepped timber bleachers, communal coffee bars, and acoustic breakout pods puncture every floor plate, transforming circulation corridors into vibrant collaboration nodes.

Chapter 02 • Kinetic Solar Facade

Algorithmic Daylight & Glare Mitigation

Facing west toward intense afternoon California sunlight, the building features an intelligent kinetic facade composed of motorized micro-perforated bronze louvers. Governed by astronomical tracking sensors, the louvers rotate incrementally to eliminate interior glare while maximizing panoramic views of San Francisco Bay.

This dynamic envelope reduces building solar heat gain by 58%, significantly lowering mechanical cooling loads and creating a constantly animated exterior architectural presence.
